AKTIV against cancer was co-founded by the legendary marathon runner Grete Waitz in 2007 strongly believing that physical activity enhances life quality for cancer patients. The main objective of the foundation is to establish so-called “Breathing Rooms” in Norwegian cancer hospitals. This is low-threshold activity centers for cancer patients during and after treatment.
“We are happy to support such a good cause at the same time as we improve our physical fitness and contribute to a better working environment. This results in double the benefits – both for the healthy employees in Zalaris and towards the improvement of quality of life for cancer patients” says Zalaris CEO, Hans-Petter Mellerud.
“Zalaris wants to contribute to a positive work environment that motivates employees to stay in good physical shape. This has proven effects on job satisfaction, sick leave and the individual’s opportunity to live a long and good life.
Having a sedentary work situation, and several colleagues who have been affected by cancer, makes participation in AKTIV against cancer such a fantastic project for us in Zalaris” says Mellerud.
“We are excited about our cooperation with Zalaris and our goal is to motivate their employees to become a bit more active, while they also support a good cause. We appreciate having such a company on board that strongly cares about their employees’ health and well-being” says Kari Syrdalen Skjæggestad, responsible for sponsor companies in AKTIV against cancer.
89 Zalaris’ employees have signed up to the program and already after one month our employees have collected 5629 NOK to the foundation. There’s already a great commitment at our three Norwegian locations in Oslo, Lødingen and Notodden and we will keep motivate our colleagues to GO AKTIV throughout 2014.
