Zalaris PeopleHub delivers award-winning payroll and HR solution for Marston’s PLC

Marston’s, a leading UK pub operator, partnered with Zalaris to migrate its payroll and HR systems to Zalaris PeopleHub, a cloud-based solution that delivers cost savings, efficiency, and innovation. The project was completed in 10 months and won two awards for excellence.

Strategic Objective/ Value Driver

Marston’s have been both a long-standing SAP payroll and HR customer of Zalaris.

Operations included 140,000-time records from 14,500 employees, pensioners and those on zero-hours contracts, processing 3,500 leave requests and up to 1,500 new hires and rehires a month.

Due to a change in the business, Marstons had just 10 months to separate its systems from the Carlsberg part of the business. Using this as an opportunity for improvement, Marston’s sought to transform payroll and HR onto Zalaris’ platform whilst removing its own data centre with more than 19 interfaces and moving premises.

Role of Zalaris

The Zalaris team had very limited time to migrate payroll data, incorporate history and compliance checks between the last old payroll and the new Zalaris PeopleHub commencing.

Migrating Marston’s historical, highly bespoke and complex systems to Zalaris PeopleHub was a significant undertaking.

Zalaris delivered a Software-as-a-Service platform with ease. By adopting the PeopleHub solution, Marston’s now has its own customised payroll with its HR teams. Zalaris continues to provide technical support and account management. PeopleHub is hosted in the Zalaris data centre and utilises SAP as a core, but the intellectual property products and services Zalaris has built around it provide outstanding capabilities and benefits.

Outcomes achieved

The project was delivered on time and to budget. The solution supports multiple strategic business initiatives including the improvement, evolution and future-proofing of payroll and HR technology.

Marston’s benefitted from significant savings. This included eliminating printing and postage, and redeployment of staff into value-added roles. Not surprisingly money has been saved with the removal of the data centre, business applications and payroll associated infrastructure.

Improvements which benefit the business include efficient processes and less risk due to automation.
