Established in 1998 as an SAP HCM focused implementation and consulting organisation, ROC successfully expanded into Europe, India, Australia & America before being acquired by Zalaris in 2017. Since its acquisition, services in the UK have expanded from SAP HCM Payroll and SAP SuccessFactors consulting and support to include implementation of the Zalaris multi-country HR & Payroll Cloud solution, which can be deployed as either a Software as a Service (SaaS) option where the customer can administer HR and payroll themselves or a comprehensive Business Process Outsource (BPO) option where Zalaris can administer HR and payroll on behalf of the customer.

As regional EVP, Stephen Burr is responsible for growing our UK market, as well as developing and growing operations in Ireland. With over two decades of experience in HR and Payroll technologies, Stephen has collaborated with a diverse range of companies across various industries. 

Stephen is a member of Zalaris’ Group Leadership team and plays a crucial role in working with Zalaris customers to help them understand how digital solutions can offer real business impact, whether it be delivering SAP SuccessFactors, SAP HCM and/or SAP Payroll consulting and support services, or utilising Zalaris’ PeopleHub SaaS and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services.

Marston’s have been both a long-standing SAP payroll and HR customer of Zalaris.

Operations included 140,000-time records from 14,500 employees, pensioners and those on zero-hours contracts, processing 3,500 leave requests and up to 1,500 new hires and rehires a month.

Due to a change in the business, Marstons had just 10 months to separate its systems from the Carlsberg part of the business. Using this as an opportunity for improvement, Marston’s sought to transform payroll and HR onto Zalaris’ platform whilst removing its own data centre with more than 19 interfaces and moving premises.

Ryanair operates a fleet of over 600 aircraft, with more than 3,500 daily flights to 235 airports in 37 countries and manages over 27,000 skilled employees. The airline expects to boost traffic by 9% in 2025 carrying up to 200 million passengers and plans to carry 300 million passengers annually by 2034 on 800 aircraft.

Their previous payroll setup relied on third-party payroll bureaus across different countries, with manual processes on shared drives and data transfers between teams. With high personnel movement across regions and complex reporting needs, this fragmented approach was unsustainable given the company’s growth trajectory.

Ryanair, Europe’s largest airline, partnered with Zalaris to implement a centralised SAP cloud-based payroll system across 10 countries, revolutionising their HR & payroll processes for sustainable growth.

The challenge is how we digitalise and enhance our processes so that we’re delivering consumer grade systems for our people across our expansive network, as we continue to grow to 800 aircraft and 300 million passengers over the next decade.


Future ready payroll: Ryanair transforms HR processes for people-centric growth



Zalaris drafted a comprehensive migration plan to implement SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll (ECP) across ten countries. The programme that was chosen by Ryanair involved a very aggressive schedule and required a significant amount of data alignment that had to be done in the background to ensure that Ryanair was collecting all the correct employee information needed for the SAP Employee Central Payroll solution.

The collaboration created a one-stop payroll solution that has minimised manual interventions while enabling real-time integrations. The payroll team now has complete oversight over centralised operations, with employees accessing their profile, pay and bank details via the Ryanair Connect app.
